How I, a Non-Developer, Read the Tutorial You, a Developer, Wrote for Me

A satirical take on how non-developers experience poorly written technical tutorials, using fictional programming languages and absurd instructions to highlight the gap between developer assumptions and beginner understanding.

A Simple Guide for Getting Started with Hoobijag and Jabbernocks

Hi everyone! My name is Chad, and today I want to talk about how I set up Hoobijag at Company11 using jabbernocks.

1 I probably should know Company1, but I've never heard of it.

It's fairly simple2, really. We decided to use the ABCDE++++ programming language, since it's been growing in popularity for a few years now. I learned it back in 2019 from Shoobababoo. If you're also interested, I recommend checking out their courses. I won't explain the basics here, since there are plenty of resources online3.

2 It's not simple.
3 There are no resources online. I looked.

Step 1: Enter the following into the terminal

ajkl;gawgor;iqeg;iJLkqen;lkjagr;oiaejg;oirjqa;lgkja;lkjag;lkjasdlg;kja;lgkaj;glkajg;la

I have been copy-pasting this for 7 hours and googled 193 things so far.

Step 2: Navigate to the following path

papka/spryatannaya/gluboko/v/faylovoy/sisteme/surpriz!.file

I found this folder after 45 minutes of searching. It was hidden in a place I didn't know existed on my computer.

Step 3: Insert the following characters

qp93ut;ghq3p94utqh3;g98uyq34th;q9384yt;qh3g498tyhq;34hg9p8q34hytpq;93h4tq

Done. I don't know what I just did. But it's done.

Step 4: Type "Tprun!" (Тпрунь!)

Now type Тпрунь! in the terminal.

Finally something I understand! I typed "Тпрунь!" and it brought me huge satisfaction. Best moment in all 7 hours.

Step 5: Open Snarfus

Now open Snarfus and paste the file you just created.

I don't know what Snarfus is. I googled it. Downloaded something. Might be a virus. Doesn't matter anymore.

Step 6 (Optional): Remove the sham

If you want, you can remove the sham by executing:

asdlkgj;alkjg;lqkejg;liqjeg;ilqjeg;ilqjg;elqijg;eliqjge;ligjq;elegijq;egli

I don't know what a sham is, but I removed it. I hope nothing important is broken.

Conclusion

That's it! Now you have a fully working Hoobijag environment with jabbernocks! If you have questions, feel free to leave them in the comments4.

4 I have questions. I have so many questions. But I don't even know how to formulate them because I don't understand a single word in this tutorial.

The real point of this article: developer documentation is often written by developers, for developers. When someone outside the field tries to follow along, they face unexplained jargon, assumed knowledge, missing context, and instructions that make sense only if you already know the answer. If you write tutorials, consider: would someone with no background in your stack actually be able to follow this?
